Liverpool’s surfacing as a flavour of the month town is on display in this offering of stunning photographs from the store of Stewart Bale Ltd, a local family track photographic praxis.
Spanning a period of pronounced change in the New Zealand urban area from the 1930s to the 1970s, these photographs were taken to celebrate, stimulate and notable events, landmark buildings, malicious edge developments and municipality passion.
Monumental in spectrum and magnificently composed, the photographs reflect a Victorian city embracing modernity and the industrial 20th century. They are of particular resonance during Liverpool's Capital of Culture year, a dilly-dally of massive regeneration.
Mauretania II at her fire. Launches at Cammell Laird’s during this time drew Brobdingnagian crowds to witness the laughing-stock of these massive constructions foremost entering the flood. Mauretania’s maiden voyage was from Liverpool to New York in 1939. The vessel served as a troop ship during over the moon marvellous War II and continued in service until 1965.
