Art

There is a French festival in Hong Kong right now.  I went to see a play “Art” with one of my cousins and her boyfriend.  The original play was written by Yasmina Reza and translated into Chinese by Jin Zhiping. The play itself was terrific – first impression suggests that it is a tiresome critique of the fallacies of modern art but later proved itself to be much more complex – and the actors were spot on – particularly eye catching is the sultry Poon Chan Leung as Serge.  The set was minimal but necessarily so, recalling the telling pretension of upper-middle class non-luxurious luxury.

What was more interesting was the Hong Kong-ness of the play and the interplay of the cultures involved which provides an insight into Hong Kong’s past and aspirations.  The play was in Cantonese, an international language in itself -a Chinese dialect slotted with appropriated English words and sayings-, but English subtitles were available in a pixel-board on top of the stage.  The actual lines spoken by the actors are full of lower-class Cantonese sayings and colloquialisms but the subtitles contain a completely different joke at times, suggesting that the Chinese-to-English or French-to-English translations were performed by a British.  The phrase “Are you taking the piss” came up a few times in the context of “are you kidding me?” but I couldn’t place the origin.  Some parts of the play was distinctly French such as the light from the window on the set being in still in the sky even at 8PM as France is on the Northern hemisphere, mentions of Lyonnaise and other French locations in the subtitles and the eating of olives.  I’ve never seen anybody eat olives here.

I recommend this play.  I'm going to look up the original in French.

Art

Lately I just haven't been motivated in college. I spend a heck of a lot more time drawing then doing my assignments. This term I just felt like I haven't learned anything, I don't feel as excited as I was when I started the program.

I am at the point where I want to give up already. I am just extremely BORED. I find that working on my paintings and drawings is so much more enjoyable. I am most happiest when I am doing my artwork! and it keeps me busy!. Ive been in college for a year already and I just feel exhausted, I hated doing the basic courses, because I was repeating the same techniques I learned in high school *abstract, line art bla bla*.

Whenever I am in a class like art history I am extremely distracted and I have to be drawing all the time! I NEED to be BUSY with drawing! thats all that I want to do! I hate being confined to a desk for two hours listening to my instructors talk about a topic that doesn't interest me at all!.

Anyways I just needed to get that rant out.
I spent the last two hours drawing! lol *you see, its like a disease!!* I cant ever stop! haha.
and its 3am.

I've attached the drawing so you can all see.
Alone
and I also thought I would mention a song that I am in love with at the moment! LISTEN TO IT!
Neverending White Lights- Where We Are

I think Ive said enough for now, I need to go and sleep lol.

art "Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets."

-Oscar Wilde (1854- 1900)Every day, our creativity guides us. We are each an artist, and life is our canvas. Life is our instrument, our marble slab, our blank page. All the choices before us are the colors, the notes, the words. We are creating our life as we create a work of art. Let's make it beautiful!
